Lab - Pulleys and Incline Planes

Today and tomorrow, we will be investigating the advantages of using pulleys and incline planes. We know that objects move because of unbalanced forces.  Sometimes we need to move something that has so much more mass than ourselves or is too high up for us to lift that we need some help.  First, let us view and discuss a few of short films. Now we will view the Hoe Handle Pulley Demonstration with a few volunteers. Do you think the person pulling the rope will be able to bring the people together? Explain your answer whether it is yes or no. How do you think we could give the person holding the rope a greater advantage? Which makes you have to use less force, a short rope, or a longer rope?
