Today we tried something new. Students did the vocabulary on the Chromebooks using their on-line textbooks, and Google Classroom. Google classroom allows me to attach a copy of a document I have made up for every student. The students can then complete the assignment on the copy of document and ¨turn it in¨ electronically.
The students have two tabs open. One for their classroom which tells them about the assignment and the instructions, and the other is their McGraw-Hill Science textbook. Today, they were to look up the definitions to the forces terms they were given, and type them in the copy of the document. Following this, students were to use the Research tool in Google Docs to find an illustration or example of the term, and click and drag this into the document. This ¨nifty¨ tool allows students to automatically have their resources cited. When they have found all the definitions and illustrations placed in their document, they click on the TURN IN button on the upper left-hand corner of the page. This results in me receiving their completed document. The student will now have a green done triangle on the top right-hand corner of the assignment. I in turn can grade the paper and return it to the student, or make comments and return it to the student for corrects, to submit again. Once graded the student will see their grade in the upper right-hand corner of the document.
It was a bit of a challenge doing vocabulary in this manner, but once they get the hang of it, I think students will do great. I have placed the time to turn these in on Wednesday night at 11:59. Students can work on this during Academic success. Ask your student to show you how this works. They will be using this all the way through high school -that is, unless technology takes us somewhere else!!!
